Great Blue Heron Catches and Swallows Fish
While walking the Anhinga Trail in Everglades National Park, I managed to video record a Great Blue Heron stalking, catching, and then swallowing a large Oscar fish (an invasive species in Florida.)
Amazing capture and blog here! That looks like a huge fish staring down its captor's throat here!
So the heron was really able to gulp down that huge/spiky thing entirely (she has such a long/skinny neck!) okay really?? It looks like the unlucky prey was swallowed wriggling/alive as well?!
I wonder, wouldn't the prey stand any slim chance of escaping or even damaging (fins, biting, etc.) the bird's stomach if eaten in that condition?
