Cicadas emerge in Lake County!

We biked 28 miles on the Des Plaines River Trail today and for the first time saw and heard the cicadas. They emerged in southern Chicagoland last week, but these are the first we encountered up north here in Lake County. We saw them in Dan Wright Woods and MacArthur Woods, but they were the loudest in Old School Preserve.

Here Dave and Patti cross one of 5 bridges that take the trail over the river on this part of the trail. The dam just upriver of this bridge showed all the rains we've had in recent days as it was nearly the same level on both sides of the dam wall. We've seen it four feet lower on the downriver side during low water conditions.
