The Palatine Trail is one of the first "linear parks" in the area, with its conception dating back to 1963. It uses the abandoned Rockford Traction Line right-of-way for a section, travels alongside Palatine Hills Golf Course, and also follows a power corridor for a section. It is asphalt surface and begins at Deer Grove Forest Preserve where there is also a 3.9 mile connector trail and loop through Deer Grove East Forest Preserve. Its other terminus is at Maple Park at Winston Drive and Anderson Drive, although today we continued over to Twin Lakes Recreation Area, which has a nice loop trail, a concession stand, and washrooms. Here are Len and Dave peering over the sign with Marlene and Patti standing and Ellen below.
The section along Palatine Hills Golf Course runs through some nice forest...
... and then after running along a creek, pedaling the underpass of Hicks Road, following the corridor under the power line, then along Salt Creek, we got to Twin Lakes...
... and rested at the golf building.
A beautiful ride on a gorgeous, cloudless, 55 degree day.

Thanks for writing about the Palatine Trail. I have a page regarding this trail on my website, Greenway Planning Database.
This website is dedicated to trail planning in the Chicagoland area. The address is http://northwestsuburbs.us
The Palatine Trail is represented on my website as "Palatine to Prospect Heights Trail" becasue their is a similar trail in Prospect Heights along the same ComEd ROW corridor. I hope Arlington Heights builds a trail along their ComEd ROW and then the Palatine Trail could one day be a part of a continuous trail throughout the northwest suburbs.
