Biking High Line Canal Trail

The High Line Canal Trail travels through Denver's southern suburbs for 71 miles between Aurora and Roxborough State Park. Denver Water operates the trail which follows the canal that keeps Denver watered, though other municipal agencies help manage the trail system.

Signage helps keep you on the trail as it meanders around...

The trail does abut numerous residential areas, some right up to the trail, but there are also many areas where you get to enjoy nature.

The trail passes through many parks, each of which offer different amenities (drinking fountains, picnic tables, restrooms, parking, recreation facilities).

The trail is paved in Denver and Aurora but has a natural surface in South Suburban, Highlands Ranch, Chatfield, Cherry Hill, and Greenwood Village.

In several section, I noticed this audience. Many of the prairie dogs scampered into their holes, but some were brave or curious enough to watch me. The local news also warned that the cute critters can pass on diseases.

The trail took me alongside Hinkley High School at lunch time, and students were on and blocking the trail, as was a food truck selling to the students. Avoid this if you can!
