Poem #45: Revision

Ever write something, set it aside thinking it was done, but upon later looking at it again, you make some changes? That is simply good writing technique, for time can bring improved thoughts. But it can be overdone!

Every word impeccable.
Each leads to the next,
Their order and sound and image
Perfect. Exact. Brilliant.

Cement them into position.
Etch them deeply onto the page
and into the soul,
never to be rearranged,
their perfection obvious.

Then sound the horns,
herald the product,
exalt its creator!
Prepare space on the mantel for the prizes.
Count the cash.
The poem is complete.
Perfection unmatched.

Then on with life.
Sleep. Eat. Work. Play.
Later, upon rereading
you think, scowling -- but, wait...
A better word is ...
And if I flip these two lines...
Perhaps the title should be ...
Maybe add a comma here, delete one there...
What if I move this to...
And then, indeed, finally,
Perfection.

So sound the horns,
herald the product,
exalt its creator!
Prepare space on the mantel for the prizes.
Count the cash.
The poem is complete.
Perfection unmatched.

Or is it?

Damn you, Revision!
Thank you, Revision!

This reminds me of a practice sentence consisting of five or six (maybe seven) words where, if you insert the comma behind a different word each time, the meaning of the sentence changes.
