Scull Creek Trail

Scull Creek Trail is Fayetteville, Arkansas' newest trail project. The extension, opened in the Fall of 2008, connects the existing short trail with the Mud Creek Trail, creating a nice 14 mile round-trip ride, with most road crossings eliminated by underpasses.

There is a convenient parking area off Greg Street at Gordon Long Park. Going south, you pass beneath the railroad tracks, alongside the University of Arkansas Cross Country facility, and on to the downtown area. A future connection with the Frisco Trail will get you to Sixth Street.

Heading north from the parking area at Long Park, the trail passes an apartment complex seen on the left with the creek on the right. Note also the trail lighting which allows evening use of the trail.

...then passes west of the Washington Regional Medical Center complex. A connecting trail allows you to venture onto the trails of the complex. Then the trail hits the Interstate where a lengthy underpass takes you beneath the 10 lanes of expressway and frontage road. The photo below shows half of the tunnel...

... and this shot shows the exit on the north side of the expressway.

After meandering through some woods, you hit the Mud Creek Trail which continues another couple miles along the Northwest Arkansas Mall development (you can park near the theaters or the WalMart and bike south to the trail) and over to Old Missouri Road. There is even a street connection linking you to the Lake Fayetteville Trail shown on the Mud Creek Trail map below.
